Henry Ford Emergency Room

Published

Hey Guys,

I'm a senior in the nursing program at the University of Michigan.. and it's coming time to think about what I want to be when I grow up.

I'm looking at hospitals around MI, and have heard SO many good things about Henry Ford (although I've never even seen it). I've been poking around on the websites and stuff and I'm really interested.

Does anybody know anything about Henry Ford ERs? Apparently there are several... which is the best? How's West Bloomfield? Are they a level-1? Do they hire new grads? How are benefits/pay/ratios?

I know, working in the ED as a new-grad is a whole different (controversial) conversation that I'm not interested in having. I WANT to work in the ER, and I can do it (yes, I realize it's gonna be tough) - I've been working as a tech in the ER at St. Joseph Mercy hospital in Ann Arbor through nursing school and also had a nursing externship in the ED so I feel somewhat more prepared than most new-grads.

Anyway, feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!:nurse:

hey there, i currently do work in the ER at henry ford on main campus and I graduated last may. i was an extern before that though from january until i graduated, and i just finished my orientation and now am flying solo. the sattelite ERs at our other facilities like w.bloomfield/macomb/fairlane, and even wyandotte send a ton of patients over to us every day for trauma/neuro consults, r/o MI, so sometimes i have to wonder what those other ones actually DO fix lol. if u were to start out here, as soon as u graduate its 24.81/hr, which doesn't change after u pass the boards, but you WILL be hired in on midnights which is like a 1.78 differential in pay, plus 2.00 dollars differential on weekends, so working a typical midnight shift, u'll be making approx 28.50 right out of school. we also have great benefits, i just recently got my plan in order w/HAP and had a recent overnight hospital stay for my gallbladder, plus an ems transfer FROM fairlane to main campus, and i didn't pay a cent! and im STILL paying off old medical bills from my OLD insurance lol. everyones pretty cool, management is well organized and not fire breathing dragons. so if its something ur interested in, apply for it online and call Rebekka Costanzo in HR. the number should be on our site somewhere.

well good luck,

Christy

Christy,

thank you so much for sharing this information. I did apply for Henry Ford ER on Garfield 19 mile. So, hopefully they will consider me.
