Hello all,
I am currently taking my pre-reqs at a local community college. I will be able to apply for nursing school either in the Fall 2011 *fingers crossed* or spring 2012. Will volunteering or working as a CNA/PCT help get into nursing school or at least look good on my resume once i graduate? reading all of these posts about the lack of jobs for new grads is really discouraging
Do I have to be a CNA before being a PCT? is the course with worth paying for?
Thanks in advance!

Check with your nursing school requirements. I know the one I'm looking at requires CNA and BLS. I'm gonna try to get EMT-B, ACLS and EKG/ECG certs before I apply just to thicken the pot. But then again ANY experience helps. Just depends how much competition you are facing for your school. Mine takes a max of 110 people to interview based off GPA/ACT scores. LOTS of competition.

It really depends on the Facility that you are at.Here in Ms where I am from you do not have to be a cna they will train you.The pct for some reason make more than the cna who are certified.I really don't understand that, but as for as having it to get in Nursing School you don't have to have it but it looks really good to have it.
In response to a PM i got from someone (can't reply due to my low post count), the school i was talking about interviews up to 110 (out of no maximum number of applications) and pick 25. This is for a 2 year ASN. In comparison, University of Kansas School of Nursing had over 500 applications for 104 BSN slots for the fall 2010 starting semester. I've heard that it is easier to get into the KU BSN program due to the higher chance. The ASN class I refer to I've heard there are hundreds upon hundreds of people applying. Also people applying several years in a row just to get in.
