Help - Working two jobs and nursing school conflict

Ok, I just got hired by not one, but two hospitals. Both have me as a PCT, under PRN status, but now both want me to work full time hours (3 12-hr shifts/wk). I told both I applied to nursing school, and if/when accepted (I have it on good authority I'm in) I'd start in April. Now both jobs are willing to work with me, but one (I'll call it H1) is more willing to work with me and my possible schedule than the other. In fact, the more difficult hospital (H2) said if I leave them, I'll be put on their "do not hire" list, which blocks me from ever applying to that hospital ever again, and any of it's sister affiliated hospitals, in which there are dozens across the nation.

H1 also is trying to get me in as a full time employee, with benefits, on the niight shift while in school. It isn't guaranteed yet, but they are really trying to make sure i don't leave them, and are diligently working on getting the ok to do so. H1 just wants me to work full time shifts at night, but under PRN status, no benefits. It seems like a no-brainer, but the "do not hire" list mark can affect me in any future job searches as a RN (after I graduate). Plus, they want me to make up my mind right away, after "cornering" me about the whole issue yesterday, making it sound like it was my fault for being misleading during my interview about being available as much as I am. (I was, but both jobs offered at same time, and i couldn't say no, with these trying times, i figured two PRN jobs with 1-2 days a week each wasnt bad.)

Talked with family and friends, and my gut feeling is saying the same thing, leave H2, accept the "list" marking, and just work at H1.

Please help. I don't want to make a devastating career decision that hurts me down the road. I fear I already did.

I would go with H1...because the way H2 is treating you does not bode well for a good employment experience. The "Do Not Hire" list should not affect you anywhere beyond that specific hospital, and if it runs like that, I wouldn't want to work there anyway.

Why not just tell H2 that you want to stay PRN and just don't take shifts with them?

In some places, after you do not work for a certain amount of time, they will make you resign or even terminate you. So my advice is to just quit H2 now. They get :down: :down:

Go with H1.

If working at H2 is not in YOUR best interest it's ok to burn that bridge.

I would definitely go with H1 because like the other posts said You definitely wouldn't want to work for an employer like that. It will not be a good experience. And who cares if you get put on a "do not hire list" (which I never heard of before) you have a great hospital who is willing to work with you during school and I have no doubt that they will hire you as a RN once you graduate. And if u want to go PRN then im sure after you work there for a while they will allow you to change positions. Best wishes to you and your decision.

Who told you about this "no hire list"? If it was not HR, then I would contact HR and let them know that "I would love to work here as a nurse after graduation, but I was told that if I did not go full time as a cna now that I would be on a "no hire list" Is this true? And then, see what HR says. If it is true, then I would not want to work for them anyway!!! Becoming a nurse is your goal, not working full time as a cna.
