I have been a medical assistant for 18 yrs. Going back to school for nursing. Can take classes online w/ distant learning or go to local tech. school. Also associate degree or bach. Thinking associate first & getting lic. as RN then more schooling later. Please advise.

Thanks,

if you are taking classes online and then must do clinical - make sure that your educational facility has some concrete arrangements for your clinical. This is the problem that I am currently having - my courses are distance learning, clinicals is required to complete the program, and they can't seem to find a place with a preceptor - so I'm left hanging with no clinicals (of course I've already paid the tuition fees for all the previous courses).

Specializes in Med/Surg <1; Epic Certified <1.

I'm an older student who already had a bachelor's in business and I decided to go the associate's route at a community college and will go on for my BSN once I am working and can get a hospital to help pay for that degree.

Use caution with less traditional programs...thoroughly check their pass rates, ask RNs you know about their reputation in the community, and be sure that the course you take through them are 100% transferable to whatever university you may think you might attend later on if you want to go on for your bachelor's or further.

I have a very good friend from high school who's been an RN for 20+ years...she gave me some very good advice: get your RN the quickest and cheapest route possible. Then go on for more....

Best wishes!!
