Help! University of Pittsburgh interview!

Does anyone know what to expect from U of Pittsburgh's interview process?

Bjon 2004. Hello sorry I can't give you any information on what to expect from the interview process, but I can say that I live in the area and the program and school have an excellent reputation. I wish you the best of luck.

The interview process is about 4-5 hours long. They tour you throught the college of nursing, UPMC Presbyterian and many UPMC Montefiore (located next to each other). They also show a rather long power point presentation, but it is very informative. Then you interview with 1 student and 5 faculty including the program director. The questions are situation based, or "get to know you" questions. There are little or no clinical questions. You interview with each for 15min. They give you coffee, doughnuts, etc. because the whole process is long. It is laid back, no need to feel intimidated. They like it if you have your CCRN or have taken graduate level courses already. But people have gotten in without either. They also emphasize GREs. They really prefer a score of 1000 or greater. It is an outstanding program, but they may pat themselves on thier own backs a bit too much. They probably deserve to i guess.

You will individually interview with about 5 faculty. It is done in a rotation style. YOu go into each one of their offices for about 15 min and they ask you a variety of questions. An assistant stands outside the offices and has a stop watch. She knocks on the door when time is up. Thus be to the point on your answers. They will ask mainly about Why you want to be a crna, your motivating factors, who is your role model, a difficult situation you were in as an RN, how you deal with conflict and give an example, and what would you do if you saw a colleage stealing drugs. (These are just what I remember). They are all very nice and the program is quite impressive. Be prepared to answer some drug questions too ex. How is Versed metabolized, what receptors are effected by dopamine, epi, ext. Basic drug questions.

Good Luck
