HELP!!! TMC vs. St. Joseph's Hospital ???

Published

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you all can help....

I'm actually in a graduate program in California. I will be able to sit for the NCLEX this December 2007 for my RN. I am visiting Tucson, AZ this weekend and have scheduled tours for both TMC and St. Joseph's. I'm thinking about Med/Surg, L & D, or Mother/Baby. Still debating if I should relocate or not....

Questions:

What are the nurse to patient ratios in AZ?

How do you like it at your hospital TMC or St. Joseph's?

Is charting PC or all handwritten?

Benefits or Perks that were attractive??

Average salary for new grad RNs in Tucson?

Pros and Cons?

p.s. know of any nice luxury apts around in Tucson??

thanks,

miko

Specializes in Cardiac.

I make more than that-and on days. PM me if you are interested...

It's so sad....:o start for New Grad currently is $22.50 day shift

I think that's everywhere in Tucson (Carondelet network, UMC, and TMC) except Kino pays new grads $24.50 (that pay was actually listed on their website). Some of these hospitals will pay more (just a tiny bit) if you work in critical care and/or have a BSN... 'cause UMC is a Magnet Hospital I do know they compensate BSN nurses with a bit more pay (but this may not hold true for all Magnet Hospitals).

I already asked TMC & St. Joe's, they said there was no pay difference for ADN vs BSN. I asked what about 2009 when I get my MSN, they said no, only pay raise would be the one I get annually. :o

thanks N & Cardiac, I will look into Kino next time I visit

Just wanted to let you guys know.....I just got offered $29/hr (with pressure, maybe $30) to work in the ER at TMC. I have 4 years on trauma team at a major California hospital plus worked on the EMS radio with the medics)...I have 15 years recent experience.....and a couple of years exp. in Canada some years back before having my kids. They said that they "just simply could not" go up any higher than $30/hr....which is why it's good to have this communication.

FYI, TMC also bought El Dorado not too long ago with the intent of making it into a long term care geriatric facility. Now they are laying off ancilary staff and pushing back their other projects for lack of funding. The current talk around town is that TMC bit off more than they could chew and is now paying the price. I work for ST. Joe's, so I'm a bit prejudice. UMC may be level one trauma, but they have sent us some patient's that I would have been ashamed to let out of my facility in the condition they were in. But then that depends on the staff that is on, not the facility in general. And there are two locations for Northwest Hospital, one one La Cholla and Orange Grove Rd. and another up off of Tangerine Rd in Oro Valley. Hope this helps.
