may i know the process on getting my california license while im still here in the philippines? because they need sss number in order to acquire the license, and to have that sss number i should be in the US first right?...is there any other way to get the license? thanks in advance for your reply.

Many threads discussing CA and SSN but unless you are in the US with a valid work/immigrant visa you can not get a SSN. CA will not issue your license without a SSN so you may want to consider moving your NCLEX results to another state whilst waiting alternatively you could ask CA for a extension on your file but this needs to be done bfore your 3 year window is up

Keep in mind if you don't have a work or immigrant visa then you'll be waiting for years at the chance for a visa. RNs are being laid off from work, and our own new grads can't find a job. If you have a job, make sure you keep it and keep gaining experience. If you don't have a job, then the US isn't the place to go at this time due to the bad economy.

well thanks nursecubanita, anyway i have an immigrant visa already and will move to new york in april, im just processing my resignation from the hospital i am working with right now...thanks for the advice though.

thanks silverdragon for the reply...well i was just wondering if there is any way i can process it but if the best way is to go to the US first and get the SSN then i have no choice but to wait til i get there, ill be in the US in april...anyways, thank you so much for the infos, i really really appreciate it.

If you are moving to NY why are you asking about CA? NY has their own application process and this includes endorsing so if you are planning on living in NY I would suggest you make a start with CVS now because that can take up to 6 months

well, coz i have taken the CA NCLEX already, but i still dont have the license coz im still in the philippines..to get the license i must have the SSN first, and to get the SSN i should be in the US first...i know its complicated, me going to NY while my license is CA, well its more of personal reason you know, my soon to be wife is in NY thats why my destination is there...why did i take the CA boards? well, because i have my own applications back then and i thought im gonna get to the states earlier than expected but then the US has retrogression, no visa for filipino nurses, the process is running slow..so my girlfriend and i decided to process the petition so i can go to the US already...well that's my story..thanks silverdragon for asking and for the replies...God Bless.

Things are clearer thank you, You still need to do CVS so start the process now as it can take 6-8 months and until you do it you will not be able to work as a RN in NY. Once you are in the US and have a SSN you can inform CA by fax and they will issue you a license and then you can endorse license to NY
