HELP!!serious questions about admissions to charity nursing school

Published

i just received my packet w/the app and all the information and i read that previous grades that don't have anything to do with nursing will be counted well back about 2000-2001 i didnt officially withdraw from school and received f's. the paper said that they go back 5 years so if i waited until january 1 to submit my app will the five years start from that point or what? i am concerned that my past as a bad follow through person is going to stop me getting into nursing school now that i have finally decided what i want out of life.:uhoh3:

Hi,

My experience is:

Yes they do go back a total of five years. That is five years from when you apply (the acceptance process usually takes one year). So in 2006 (@ for the 2007 fall entrance class) they would look at 2001-2006- you would get reviewed- and they send out acceptance letters at the end of Dec. BUT you must have your application in by Aug 31- as well as all the other needed items.

They won't even consider your application until you have all items submitted @pax scores, transcripts, application etc..You must meet the application deadline of Aug 31 for the next years fall class... and jan 31 for the next years spring class...

I kind of messed up and turned my actual application in 1 week past the deadline and they did not consider me-so I had to wait it out....

You must have:

An overall gpa of 2.0 (this includes every school that you have attended)

An overall 2.5 gpa in any general education courses and required related courses inthe nursing school of curriculum.

And a Delgado gpa of at least 2.0

And a grade of C or higher in pysch, and all the sciences.

They really do review the grades/transcripts. Even after you have been accepeted they review your grades with you again and have you sign off on a recap sheet to ensure that everything is correct.

Being out of school for a long time, and re-entering after 10+ years, I was suprised that all of the teachers (in all of the courses that I took) would tell students to drop the class if they thought that they were going to fail it. I guess it makes sense..

I wish you the best of luck- hope this info helps you...

Well, I know alot of things have changed since the hurricane, but I graduated from CSN May 05, and I do know that MOSTof the staff is understanding, even in the admission office. If you are really worried, I would attached a letter explaining your previous situation that led you to stop attending school and resulted in you receiving F's. You would be amazed at how far a little communication will go. I remember when I applied, some one told me, if I had not completed my Hep B, that I would not be considered. Well, I wrote a letter and explained my circumstances, and well I got a phone call not a letter, cause I was the last student accepted that semester, at the last minute. I just want you to truley know ANY thing is possible when you're persistent. Good Luck!

thanks to everyone who has submitted advice i will look into w/ the nursing advisor at school and see what my options are.:sofahider

Good advice about speaking with them-and the letter! I would also think that your chances would be alot higher post-Katrina. I read in yesterdays newspaper that schools in this area are expecting an all time shortage of students. Tulane is expected to be down 43%, Loyola down about 38%. SELU is said to be up about 30 % in students.... There was nothing mentioned about Delgado.

I did take a few classes at the main campus post Katrina-Spring, and as expected, the overall student turnout was very, very low. I guess people are having a hard time finding housing, and maybe waiting until this hurricane season is over to make any decisions about how to proceed.

Good Luck.

i had a conversation w/ gthe dean at delgado and he gave me very encouraging advice so i have officially changed my major and am now a undergraduate nursing student. thanks to all who have replied.

Thats great news!! Congrats..:balloons:
