Help! RN with one year HH experience and still can't get a hospital job

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi all! I need some help! I received my RN license last January(2010) and have been working for a home health agency since then, but the problem is that I would like to get into the hospital and they tell me that I need a year of hospital experience, huh? How does this make sense? How can I get the experience if no one will provide me with it. I really love nursing, I eventually would like to become a NP in women's care, OB/GYN but I know before I even get to the graduate schooling part of it I need to get some experience in those fields L&D, ante, post, mom and baby. Can someone let me know their experiences about getting employment. I am located in Tampa, FL, yes I know there are thousands of jobs out there, but they all seem to want a year of acute care hospital experience! HELP HELP HELP!!!!!

Specializes in Home Care.

Keep applying and don't give up.

I can think of 6 new RNs who all got jobs within a few months of graduating. These positions were at Bayfront, All Childrens, TGH, Brandon hospital, and a cardiology office.

Specializes in LTAC, Wound Care, Case Management.

Don't be picky where you apply. Sometimes smaller hospitals are willing to hire new grads too. Just keep searching, you will find you're break! It's tough to get in the door sometimes; but once you do, options are endless. Good luck!
