Help Research Assignment

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi, I Am Trying To Start A Research Assignment. I Have To Write A Review. I Am Critically Appraising 5 Research Articles At The Moment, 4 Of Them Are American.

This Might Sound Stupid But What Is An Exploratory Design?? Can't Find It In Any Of My Books And Internet Isn't Clear.

Please Help!!!!!

Did i ask the impossible? 30 people have read my question, and nobody has answered. I wrote this message in desperation, thought i would get a response from at least one nurse somewhere in the world. Not to worry, i have bought yet another book and answered my own question. I can do it on my own!!!

I read this thread because I was curious to see that the one reply is the same person who posted the original message. I hadn't intended to actually read it otherwise because I tend to avoid posts that are written with all capitals, or Have Every Word Start With A Capital Letter. Makes for difficult reading, and I usually don't bother, to be honest.

That said, I don't think you asked the impossible, but rather, something apparently that either 30 people didn't know, or didn't stay to read through because of the original text.

Me, I don't have a clue what "exploratory design" is, so I can't help you there. Your reaction to getting no response is a little severe; we can't know everything, and this, I guess, is one of those things!

Hopefully the next time you need to know something, it's something WE know, too :) Don't give up, read around the site, and get a feel for what's here. You might be able to offer something to help someone else, too.

my booklet on reading research does not have exploratory in it

it does have "experimental" - and the 3 essential characteristics:

1) randomization

2) a control group for comparison with the experimental group)

3) manipulation of a special treatment

and there is mention of quasi-experimental designs that lack one or more of the above 3 characteristicss

I would probably check with library staff if unable to find definition of "exploratory"

(about the Word All Starting With Capitals - I think that sometimes the computer has been set to create it this way, and it can of course be changed)
