Hi all,

I'm currently doing an assessment and one of the questions is:

Give 2 (two) possible cultural aspects that might be involved in the ‘passing away' (death or dying) of an indigenous person and explain what actions each (both) would require as part of your care of the client or his/her family?

What exactly does this mean? Any help would be appreciated.

not to be a jerk but tell us first what u think the question is asking you

It seems pretty straight forward to me. It is asking what some cultural consideration could be for an indigenous patient. As in an original native of your country. If you are in the US then it would be a native American.

That's what I thought it meant but some of my classmates had other ideas. Thanks for your help :)

This is one of the most interesting aspects of Nursing Practice. Without exception - one of the characteristics of any culture are the beliefs & practices that accompany the beginning and end of life. Practices are usually driven by belief; some are dictated by religious dogma. For instance, some religions mandate burial within a very short time period after death. Some require that all the deceased's personal possessions be burned. Some require very showy and formalized mourning demonstrations. Some require that all mirrors be covered in during the mourning period..... really fascinating stuff.

I hope you come back and share with us what you have discovered
