Help Please!!!

Today has not been the best of days as I've been running around trying to get in touch with the Department heads about taking Micro. and AP1. Some background, I completed a semester of General Bio. back in college and started Chemistry, then withdraw after I changed my major from biochem. to something else. The community college where I want to take these classes requires a years of college biology and one semester of chemistry. Just spoke with department head and she said no; I didn't have a chance to explain the reasoning and motivation behind my wanting to take these classes. On top of all that, I know won't be able to take neither one this fall and I'm applying to several Accel. BSN programs and really wanted those grades to be submitted along with my app. My entire plan has just gone up in smoke. How did you all deal with AP1 and micro., did you need prereqs. for those and if so did you just take a yr. of bio and chem.? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First, I would rephrase the title of your post. People tend to ignore very general titles.

Second, each institution has its own policy regarding pre-requisites. I recall that there was a math/algebra & chemistry requirement before I took anatomy and physiology. IMO it was not really necessary, for me, but they cannot do an in depth analysis of everyone's academic ability for placement.

Did I read correctly -- you must take a college chemistry class and another semester of biology before you take the Micro and A & P? The chemistry is pretty standard procedure at many colleges. A little harsh on the biology, perhaps.

I can only imagine that any accelerated BSN program expects at least 1 semester of college chemistry anyway. The accelerated program isn't going to go away in one semester. Take the classes and use the spare time to make sure that you have a fabulous resume for the accelerated program -- like volunteer, do your CNA and work in the field or something like that.

How do you know you won't be able to take the classes this fall? Are they full? Get on the waiting list and show up for the first week of class -- tons of people drop out of these classes in the first week or two.

Good luck.

I had a hard time understanding your post. For pre-reqs such as micro and a&P we needed to have one semester of bio and one of chemistry. I don't know how you would even apply to a program without completion of the required courses. Most schools in my area do not allow you to apply until completion of the courses.

Sorry, the department heads don't care what your motivastion or reasoning are. There are some classes that require prerequisites, and there certain classes to be completed before applying to a nursing program.

I hope you can get things straight and have a clear path through nursing school! best of luck to you.
