Hi all, I am doing an assignment that asks me to look in the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act with Rules and Regulations and then asks me to explain guidelines for unprofessional conduct relating to documentation. I cannot find anything on this subject in the whole thing. I even used a search bar in the document and couldn't come up with anything. If someone could just give me the section where it might be found it would be of GREAT help. Thanks:)

i went onto their website and looked at the nurse practice act as well as some of the "guidelines". there is stuff in the nurse practice act about unprofessional conduct, but it is not specific (these state laws usually never are--specifics are left up to the boards themselves).
these "rules of the board" would be within those "guidelines", the page of which is titled as guidelines, position papers when you get to it. there was an interesting link, the 4th listing there, entitled "board document definitions policy". it is a 5-page document (http://www.ok.gov/nursing/docdefin.pdf) that gives definitions of these terms used by your state board: statute, rule, declaratory ruling, advisory opinion, position statement, and policies/guidelines as related to: nursing education & nursing practice.
there is another link on the home page: "rules". this links you section 485 of your state law that governs the administrative practice of the board of nursing in your state (http://www.ok.gov/nursing/rules07.pdf). this is where i think you need to focus.
when i clicked on the "investigation/discipline" link at the top of the home page a page came up that had a link toward the bottom that said "violations of the oklahoma nursing practice act and rules". click on that to get to here: http://www.ok.gov/nursing/violation.html. the rules about false documentation of patient records are toward the bottom of the page and expand on section 485 of your state law. your board specifies on this page exactly what they have interpreted the law to mean:
you really ought to read what is on that page. better yet, print it out. very interesting stuff you need to know as a nurse working in your state.
Thank you so much!!!
