PLEASE HELP!!!! im interested in applying for a nurse residency program at a hospital. I know that majority of residency programs only accept new graduates (6-12months) Does anyone know any residency program that will accept a nurse that has been out of school for 2 years and working 1 years as a school nurse?

It would depend on the area that you are living or interested in; what area do you reside?
I would be willing to move anywhere!! do you know of any residency program that would accept a nurse who graduated 2 years ago and with 1 year experience?

I know a lot of children's hospitals will train nurses who've worked with adults to become pediatric nurses. It's "new to speciality" programs. You could try that?

I took a residency position after 17 years of experience as a nurse and just short of 3 years not actively working. Residency can be either for new grads or to train or re-train in a new field where you would be a novice. For me, I'd been in psych, and the residency was medical oncology -- quite a change.
I can't remember specifics . . . but a certain amount of time 'inactive' requires a refresher course. I barely, barely made it under the wire for that. Otherwise, a residency IMO is the BEST job for new or relatively inexperienced nurses.
Thank you so much for your response! This really gives me hope of getting into a residency program. After researching a lot of nurse residency programs, I felt discourage because it seem like they were only looking for new grads. What hospital did you do a residency in?
Thank you I really appreciate your response. I will definitely be looking into this.
By chance on the top of your head do you know which hospitals offer this?
