I took a residency position after 17 years of experience as a nurse and just short of 3 years not actively working. Residency can be either for new grads or to train or re-train in a new field where you would be a novice. For me, I'd been in psych, and the residency was medical oncology -- quite a change.
I can't remember specifics . . . but a certain amount of time 'inactive' requires a refresher course. I barely, barely made it under the wire for that. Otherwise, a residency IMO is the BEST job for new or relatively inexperienced nurses.

PLEASE HELP!!!! im interested in applying for a nurse residency program at a hospital. I know that majority of residency programs only accept new graduates (6-12months) Does anyone know any residency program that will accept a nurse that has been out of school for 2 years and working 1 years as a school nurse?
