Help! Needles Make Me Faint

Since I was about 12, I have struggled with wooziness/fainting anytime I have blood drawn/get an IV. I wouldn't say I'm afraid of needles, but the pain associated with them is what does me in.
During nursing school I realized I have the same response when someone else is getting poked. When attempting to place an IV or watching someone else do it, I end up getting woozy and have to excuse myself before I faint. (I have never actively fainted while trying to place an IV on a patient. I'm very aware of the oncoming symptoms and excuse myself immediately.)

I had hoped more exposure would help minimize my reactions but it seems to have only made it worse and now my symptoms come on more quickly more intensified. I can't even set up supplies without starting to feel symptoms.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you get past it and how? If not, how do you manage it? I don't know what to do.
I currently work on a medsurg unit and do not want to switch specialties.

Really common problem...you're in your own head. Eat and hydrate before work. When it starts to happen, acknowledge whats going on, that it's happened before and that it's fine. It's a stress reaction that is normal. Ride the wave.

Yes. And remember to breathe.
