Help needed. Singaporean nurse, wanting to work in the US.

Published

Hi,

I am seeking some insight as to how I may go about the process of working in the United States, specifically Pennsylvania, or Washington D.C.

I am currently in Singapore. After finishing my 10 years of of secondary education, I enrolled myself in nursing school. After 3 years, I obtained a diploma in nursing. I have been working in the surgical icu since then for about 3 years as an RN. Very soon, I am gonna graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accelerated nursing conversion programme by an Australian University (Curtin)!

As my fiance is living in the United States, I plan on finally joining him and getting a job there. So my questions are

1) What are the process of getting my diplomas/degree evaluated?

2) Will my education and job experiences be sufficient?

3) Do I need to seek licensure from the specified board of nursing (Pennsylvania or D.C) before taking my NCLEX?

4) What are my odds of being able to obtain the job of an ICU nurse ( I can take care of basically all sorts of patients, except for dialysis, and ecmo, will they be willing to train me?)

Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am feeling so overwhelmed with all the information I have found on the internet in regards to immigration and certification

Thank you!

Starting point would be checking out the state Board of Nursing website and see what is required as a foreign trained nurse and go through the process. You will not get permission to sit NCLEX until requirements are met

So how's the progress now, @alvinanicole

I am planning to work in the states as well but I am not sure how do I go about?
