HELP ME PLEASE! Pre-reqs in the same semester

Published

Hello All,

I will be going back to school this semester for pre-nursing at GTC. I need to take all my science pre-reqs, please tell me which courses I shouldn't take within the same semester.

Any information would be grateful...

Are you only taking your sciences?

Specializes in LTC/Rehab.

I've been told that you shouldn't take more than one science in a semester. But I'm taking A&P I, II, and Chemistry this summer... and I'm doing it. So it just depends on how much time you can commit to your sciences because A&P labs are like another class of its own.

Currently only science courses because I have a degree already...2001

I haven't been in school since 2001 and So I am unsure on how much science I can handle in one semester.. I was planning to take Micro, Biology, and A&P plus Labs.. I guess this may be too much..

Do you work? Do you have kids? Consider how much time you have to dedicate to your classes. I took all my sciences 1 at a time to ensure that I could make the best possible grades. The aim is not just to pass but to get the highest grade you can to make yourself competitive. C is not good enough in sciences to get into nursing school these days. So I was calculating in monitoring how much time I could put in to make sure I got the highest grade. No way would I have been able to manage 3 sciences at once. That is really 6 classes since each class has a lab. But everyone is different, every school, every professor is different. I had a friend that was taking A&P II at the same time I took it, he took it at another school and I was amazed at what he told me was on his exams. Far more easier than the ones we were getting. Some profs will go muchdeeper. I had a prior degree but did not have a background in science so thats another reason I did not want to load up. Last science class I had before starting pre-reqs was in junior high!

I would take 1 class at first and see how it goes. Then next semester if time permits and all is going well then do more. Yes its the more cautious route but thats what I would do. I've seen quite a few people try and rush things and end up with Cs or having to withdraw. Ws and Cs are not your friends for many programs.

Thank for that detail information. I work fulltime and have an active 8year old son, so maybe I should only take one science course my first semester. Im not sure how I am going to be able to manage this new load. I guess I was crazy thinking I could take those classes at one time. Im sooooo happy you made me look at the clear picture:). I will start with A&P I.

If you work full time I would definitely only take one science at a time. I worked full time and took A&P1 and Chemistry at the same time. And they both had labs. I had never taken chemistry before because it wasn't a requirement when I was in high school. It was probably the hardest semester of my life. I was so stressed that I'm surprised my family didn't kick me out of the house. I ended up with a B in both lecture classes, an A in the chemistry lab because I had a great partner and a great teacher, and a C in the A&P lab. I was not happy. I didn't do well in the lab and didn't do as well in the classes as I wanted to because I physically did not have enough time to study. I have 2 girls, but one was finishing her degree at UGA and the other was a junior in high school and could take care of herself if I was studying.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you and with that information I will only take one science course per semester..I'm not sure if I will be able to handle anymore yet..
