Help Me Find My Niche :)

Specializes in Psych.

Hi everyone, I'd love to hear your ideas on what specialties I might be a good fit for. Right now I am a private duty nurse, and its ok, but often it is glorified sitting. (That's in my case, I'm not judging private duty in general.)

I had 4 years in psych/subs abuse/forensics, which I really liked, but I had to leave to heal from a TBI. After the TBI, I had many headaches, and took ibuprofen almost daily, which had compromised my kidneys.

In short, I tend to get fatigued after a few hours, so 8 hours shifts are my max, and prn at that.

I'm interested the OR or peri-op, but I never rotated to those area, and I'm not really sure what all you actually do. Id like to get to forensic nurseing again, but I need to move to a bigger town, so I would like to get some good experience under my belt so I can pick up a travel job.

Also, I'm 45, but I'm still ready to learn. The only thing I definitely want to stay away from us nursing in which there is much titration or math. (Maybe that's why psych was a good fit.)

So, can I still branch out? Or could I look for a psych travel job? Thanks!
