help! just selected for direct commission

Published

Just found out I was selected for FY 2012! I have a duty station? Do they try to get you where you.want to go or do you basically have no input?? My husband is active duty as well so we are just trying to figure it all out! Thanks for your help!

Congratualtions!

I hear that it is highly competitive to get into any branch this year. I hope that it all goes great for you!

Angela,

That's awesome! I'll keep ya posted along the way! I've found so much great info on this board already so i'll be checking in as often as possible.

Lunah,

I was wondering how long after your recruiter told you that you were selected, did you receive something more official?

Thanks Ladies!

Check the Army Direct Commission thread for more info. I asked her that already :). Btw, I did my basic training at Ft Jackson. I really liked it.

It was a loooong time. Selected 1 December, and I got my orders on 9 March to report to BOLC on 23 March. There were lots of funding issues that were holding up orders, waiting for money to be released to fund our seats at BOLC. Stay in close contact with your recruiter! They can help you contact/communicate with HRC about orders and duty stations, get you an AKO account, help you get your required uniforms purchased, etc.

I remember in one of your previous posts that you said to get the uniforms BEFORE going to your duty station. But how do you know what to get and where to get it? Because I don't think that we can get stuff at clothing sales until after we have an ID (or orders I guess).

Also, as an officer are we required to pay for everything ourselves?

Thanks

I went with my recruiter to clothing and sales. She had the packing list for BOLC, which is what we used to shop. Officers do buy their own uniforms, and we get a one-time $600 reimbursement.

Thanks for the info.
