I work in a health department as a case manager. The program was set up by two social workers who have made no secret that they value SW over nursing in CM. Now there is another job in the HD for a nurse with a big increase in salary as well as much nicer look on long term earnings. It has all the things I want. What I find funny is how I feel like I should be ashamed somehow that I am applying for a job that pays more money and meets my needs. Am I the only nurse who feels that leaving even a less than desirable situation is some kind of abandonment???Please adivse. :uhoh3:

No, I think quite a few nurses would have similar feelings of conflict and empathy. But I wouldn't let that stop me from putting my best effort into getting the job that pays more and has better long range earning potential. Who knows maybe they'll find a SW for your current position & EVERYBODY will be happy! hehehe
I'm sure I don't need to advise you that if you get the other job it's important to be gracious & not burn bridges with the SW case managers. (Like most HD jobs I imagine the salaries are "public knowledge" & your current co-workers might get a little jealous.)
Best of luck to you!
