help! I want a second job

Published

I just graduated last may. I have been working at my current job for 8 months, which I love. The only downside is that it is a specialty (job A). And I know I will be relocating within a year and I want to make sure I have available job options. I also don't want to lose my nursing skills. But I want to get another job working with pediatrics (job B). I was thinking of trying to work Job B part time as new grad? I'm just a little lost about how I should proceed with this. Since job B is also a specialty they will probably have a strict orientation schedule and I'm not sure if it's possible to work part-time. I'm just seeking advice. Any??????

Specializes in ICU.

Just apply and see what happens! I just got a PRN job. They are only giving me 2 days of orientation even though they know I don't even have a year of experience, so it was pretty easy to schedule around my current job. You'd be surprised at how little orientation some places will give their PRN staff. I know I was.

I am terrified of having so little orientation, especially since I have never used their computer system before and they have no training classes for their computer system, so I have two shifts to learn how to chart perfectly before I am on my own, but hey - at least it does work around my main job.

Thanks for responding. That's good to know. Hope the PRN job works out well!
