Help I need to know if nursing is what I want to do.

Hi I love what nurses do and the whole aspect of nursing. I thought I wanted to be a nurse but I went into psychology and thinking of becoming a psychologist. One of the main reasons why I wanted to be a nurse which I am sure a lot of people do is helping people. I have such a passion for helping people. Before I went to college all I knew is that I want to help people no matter what. Unfortunately I have an anxiety disorder and I suffer everyday with it. I know a day in life as a nurse is unpredictable. I am worried that I can not handle that type of lifestyle or even be responsible for someones life. But I know that there is training and you learn how to do all of those things I am just so worried that I will go for it and then this is what I wasn't suppose to be doing. I like taking care of people. Whenever my boyfriend is sick I do anything and everything for him. Again all I know is I want to help people and make them happy. I want to make people feel better.

I don't know what's right for you, but you do seem to have a rather romantic view of nursing. It's nothing like taking care of your sick boyfriend. It's big business, and you will be utilized as a money-making tool. There's not a lot of time for hand-holding, "being there", and making people happy.

That doesn't mean that you'll never have a caring moment here or there, but ...
