Well I have not been on this site lately - but I missed it alot.
My dilemma is this - I am working currently P/T with children/adolescents
at an inpatient mental health center. I have worked for this system since
1996 (7 years) , in several different jobs. I no longer want to work at MH
and have decided to look elsewhere. I am wanting to go back to F/T. I
thought either a pediatricians office or a infertility clinic. Being that I am
struggling with infertility - I thought it would be a great opportunity to help
people like myself. Anyway, I got an interview w/ a private Dr. who does
this type of work. He said they would be willing to train me (although I do
know some - not much) pay me 18.00/hr but he said it would be salary?
And then he said every other weekend - I would have to carry a pager -
for when patients call, etc... Ok - so now I am sitting at home trying to
picture this scenario. It makes me wonder how much will I actually be
working? It sounds like I am expected to be avl for 2 weekends/ month, but
not really get paid?? Can that be true? I have never worked in a physicians
office before? Its a m-f, 8-5:00. But every other weekend, is just too much!
Also, he does not cover infertility - since it is such a small staff. Him and
2 RNs total. Right now I have infertility coverage, but I hate my job. What
a dilemma. I want to learn and this would be my opportunity - but I want
a life too. He mentioned maybe I could stay on Cobra - but thats over 400
a month! Crazy! So anyway, can anyone who works in a doctors office tell me if this is the norm? Do you like it? Was it hard to get hired on? Thanks for
any suggestions!

that does not really sound like a good benefit to me--especially only making 18.00p/h and then having to take call with no pay--is that correct or did I misread that--I would really think about it. I had problems too with infertility and now have a 4 year old daughter--if you would like to chat-pm me.
best to you, heather.
