Hello,
I was planning on leaving tomorrow evening for my first travel assignment 1200 miles away in Nebraska (I am from Ohio). I got a call yesterday that the agency can not find me a place to live. It is a VERY smallrual community and I do belive they have tried.
They want me to stay at a Days INN. I am not thrilled about this. I wanted a kitchen to cook in. I have dietary needs and cook all the time.
I told them if I would stay at the Hotel, but they need to cominsate me for having to eat out for my meals. Do you think they will?
The hotel has a free contintal breakfast every AM but this does me no good, as its all carbs etc and does not meet my dietary needs and I will also be on 3rd shift, so my breakfast would be in the evening.
I also wanted to bring my cat, but if i am ina one room hotel, I am not going to.
I am a little nerveous about this, so far the company has been on top of everything, so i am still planning on leaving. But I really want a place to live when I get there !!
Any thoughts would be great !!!

OMG!!! my husband and I are leaving next Wednesday for Omaha NE. We accepted a position at Bergen Mercy, were are you going to be working? Your agency should definatly accomadate your needs. We are getting a tax free $950 pier diem which includes cost of living. Be firm with them!!!
good luck!

here is an idea find a local newspaper online see if has a room for rent or call the hospital and see if they can help you. you also might have to look at driving to get into a place?

Yep. Try Craigslist.

I agree with the others- if your company cannot find you adequate housing, take the housing stipend, and find your own housing. The local paper and craigslist are great places to find housing.
Thanks for the advice.
So here is what happended. the hospital in in a VERY rural area...VERY no paper, no craigslist for this area.
They found a place, but it was an hour away. I was ok with this, they were going to help cover the gas. I was not crazy about it, as i will be working nights and the last thing I want to do is drive an hour.
A few hours after I wrote this post, my recruiter called and said there was another traveler who was there and had found a place.
So we connected and what we are doing is sharing a hotel room together. He went and looked at them and it was clean and quite ec...
Talk about travel adventure. I have never met this guy before, although in talking with him, he seemed nice enough. He is also a new traveler himself and lives about 400 miles away and will be going home on his days off. So With the stipend I will make an additional $1000 a month after the rent is paid.
This will either be great or a complete nightmare ! We shall see.
What hospital are you assigned to?
