Help. I go to a NS in another state & I plan to sit for boards in my home state.

Published

Currently I go to nursing school in another state and I plan to graduate from this school. Once I graduate I plan to go home and sit for boards in the state I grew up in and thats the area I would like to start working in. How does that work? Do I have to apply to sit for the NCLEX in my hometown or do I have to apply to sit for boards in the state that I graduate nursing school from?

Hopefully I am not confusing anyone.

thank you

As far as I know you can apply in the state you wish to be licensed in. We had one person who graduated in Louisiana and is licensed in South Carolina. She just had to apply to that BON. Hope that helps.

You can apply for initial licensure, by examination, in any state that you'd like.

Find the BON for the state you want to get your license in and look for information about how to apply for licensure by examination. There should be application instructions for out of state graduates. If not, give them a call and ask.

You can sit for your boards anywhere. I took mine in a different state than I live or work, because the testing center was closer to me. You apply to the BON in the state you plan to work in. Your school should provide you with the information for applying to the BON, along with how to sign up at the testing center. Good luck!

thank you all!
