Help...I desperately need an advice

Published

I am starting nursing school this fall and currently working 12 hr nightshift as a clinical technician at a hospital. I received my lab and clinical schedule last week and it complicates with my work schedule. I will have school M, T, R, and F so the only option is to work either 1 day and 1 night/week or 1 night/week. I spoke with my manager and told her my situation and she told me that she'll try to figure something out so she can accommodate my school schedule. Also during this meeting, she had told me that she can't let me work dayshift (even if I'm only asking for 1 day shift per week) because I am a night shift tech. I emailed her and asked her what she decided to do and she told me that "I would like you to think hard how you could put in 24 hrs , and I am sorry but you may have to do some sacrifices at least for this semester..". I love working at this hospital and my coworkers but school is my priority.

What should I do?

Nursing school requires a lot of studying really:/ it might be good for you to just focus on nursing school in my opinion but i also understand that having a job is a great help in your finances. When i was in nursing school , theres so much to study and it demands more time especially if you start doing your clinical rotations.:)

If part time job works for you then go for it while your in school.

I'm actually doing part-time work right now 7p-7a twice a week but I still don't think that it's a good idea to continue this kind of schedule since I'm also doing my clinicals every Friday from 6:30a-5p.

Work Saturday and Tuesday nights. Sleep when u get home and study after lunch. I'm in school doing my RN and I work nights part time (8 hour shifts, 40 hours biweekly). I have to work every other weekend and every other Monday morning I go straight to school from work at 730 am, my class starts at 9 and ends at 12. I hate it but I have no choice because I need my benefits. Def stick with the tech job because when you graduate they will most likely hire you on as a nurse because you are already in their system. It's doable.

Specializes in ER/ICU/STICU.

If school is your priority than I think you have your answer.
