i have spent many hours reading the numerous posts on this board regarding the many challenges and/or opportunities that we nurses face on a daily basis. it would be interesting to note how many of you out there feel that the current proposed healthcare legislation would either help or hurt our profession? this is not meant to start a flame war, a political tit-for-tat, or "let's bash our president" discussion. simple..... help or hurt?

you are on board of many professionals, we tend to take stipulations seriously (i.e. this is not meant to start a flame war, a political tit-for-tat, or "let's bash our president" discussion. simple..... help or hurt?), and it makes me stop and think:
"hmm, in order to answer this poster i need to continue my search for unbiased information on a system and idea that is:
1. much bigger than me.
2. is in its very early stages of many reincarnations of amendments.
3.then i have to look at said plan, apply it to my practice, remembering the above statements, and come up with something profound, mature and conversational that states both my opinions, and builds a solid base for conversation vs argument."
i personally believe in change. i believe in shaking up the system, but i also believe it needs to be done with care, thoughtfulness and patience. i believe the system, if done correctly, after its many reincarnations will help.
i believe if done to hastily has the very real potential to hurt.

I think that healthcare obviously needs reform. I hesitate, however, at the speed with which President Obama wishes to reform it. August? Seriously? I couldn't even get through a job application process in that amount of time! Healthcare is a huge monster...I would be more willing to support reform if I knew that all eventualities had been carefully thought out ahead of time.

I'm still undecided whether the healthcare reforms will help or hurt nursing. On the positive side, more people would receive preventative medical care. However, how would the reforms affect medical professional's income, hospital revenues, etc? I feel that this is a topic that must be addressed, therefore, let's explore our options.

I think ALMOST anything has got to be better than what we are dealing with now. There will be a lot of tweaking, no matter when it starts, but I do think that we need to precede a little more slowly, get more input, look at what works with other countries.
I say it will HELP

Hi,
i don't want to pour some cold water to anyone. But I just had a hard time trust the gov't because what I saw in the hospital with all these veteran and what happen to them. Many of people might understand what I am saying. I believe that medical should be reform, but reform with someone who understand medical issues and what cause these issues to happen in the first place. I saw that they cut down some of the hospital funding, but it seems like affecting many nurses and doctors and affecting the patients the most. I really wish that we are not like Canada even through we are going that direction. I had relative in Canada and they have to wait for so long to just get a X-ray to be done. It is crazy. I am talking about patient perspective. It will help the people in this health system if the govt understand us the people who work in the system not the business perspective.
