i was recently handed my paycheck by the office manager. this came hours in the day after i had spoken to the sr physician about the outrage he took with all of us the previous afternoon and the frequent use of the f...word.

I'm sorry for your bad experience! Sounds like it might have been a toxic environment anyway, so they might have done you a favor.
I've always been one of those people who lets things roll off of me easily. Where I work, the people are great, but there are a couple of physicians who can occasionally get a little fired up. It's never bothered me. Holler at me if you want. You'll be fine in ten minutes and so will I.

Sorry, no. It is not my job to accept being verbally abused. The OP had every right to take exception to being spoken to so unprofessionally and with profanity.
Consider yourself lucky. That doc obviously had no boundaries. Who knows what he might have done next? Started throwing things, possibly even hitting one of you?
Nurses never, never, have to sit back, shut up, and take this kind of treatment, and it sends a bad message to say we should. It's one thing if someone gets impatient and abrupt from time to time; I'm sure we've all been guilty of that. The situation the OP described goes way beyond that.
