I need some help. Anything would be great. I am a nursing student done with the program in May. I have one semester left 16 weeks or so from now. I have always done well in classes, done really well clinically. I stuggled with this semester on exams. Either did well or didnt. there was no in between. I finished the semester and didnt pass. I fell short .52 points. seriously needed half a point more to pass the course. They are counting it as failed, therefore i have to wait 1 year to pick up where i left off and then retake that course and then finish last course. What should i do. they are not responding to any requests to see and go over past exams or dispute the grade. Just bascially said the grade is the grade i must repeat the course. any thoughts. or ideas. has anyone been in this situation with a postive turn around. i just thought they would have found the half point no questions asked, i am so close and always been great student. so shocked and dissapointed. HELP>>>

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Ive been in the same situation. I couldnt challenge any of the exam questions nor does my school have an option to test out of the course.
Does your school have an option to test out of the course?
I had to take the class again and I passed with flying colors. I feel more confident with the material now. Since you barely passed, maybe you might need to take the class again to master the material as oppose to just getting by.
Id say take the class again if your school doesnt give you any other option.
OR you can look for a school that can taking your nursing credits since you are so close to graduating...
Good luck and wish the best for you...dont be discourage! You can do it!

There was a post recently, maybe within the past month, that was very similar to your post. Try to find that one because a lot of people had some really great suggestions like talking to the department chair, writing letters, and other options. A good number of posters had been in the same situation that you are in.
That really stinks (I'd like to insert a much harsher word but...) that you were .5 points away from passing and the instructor is not willing to work with you. I think I'd be pulling my hair out!
Good luck to you. I hope you're able to talk/meet/write to someone at your school that can help you out.

I have had the same thing happen to other students in our school. Your shcool should have an appeals board, you may want to consider fillin an appeal? what is the grading system like? In our school you have to have a 76% or above to pass and they dont round up, we had a girl that failed by .3 something.
we have to maintain a 77 percent. weighted between 4 exams and a paper. they have policy that they dont round. pretty much looks like i am waiting another 18 months to become a nurse tough because it was only 16 weeks away. thats a huge change of plans..yuck

If emails aren't working, I would go in person and talk to someone...whether it's the teacher, clinical instructor, dean...or anyone who can talk to someone else. Maybe the teacher can argue on your behalf that you actually do know the material, maybe the clinical instructor can argue that you're very competent..it can't hurt. But go for the in-person approach.
i agree if your teachers know how hard you work and they know you know the material they are usually willing to stand up for you. some people have test anxiety and just dont do well on test even if they know the materials.
