Help with giving injections

Published

Okay, I really do think I know what I did wrong, but I still need someone to tell me that all nursing students make mistakes. :)

I won't go into specifics, but I'll just generalize in that when I hold a syringe to give a shot, I tend to hold it like a pen. And I hold my pens really close to the point, instead of further back where I'm supposed to. This poses problems with logistics when giving shots. :)

Can anyone give me some tips to feel more comfortable holding the syringe in the right place so this doesn't happen again? I feel very unsteady if I'm not gripping it further up and I can't get a good balance on it. I know it's a small issue but I really want to be able to do it without problems next time. And without nerves..I'm rattled now that this happened. :uhoh21: Thanks!

Can you get a needle/syringe to practice with? Get an orange and just keep giving it injections until you are comfortable.

Yes all nursing students make mistakes. Your human right.

Intramuscular make sure you find your landmarks, and aspirate Holding the syringe like a pen is probably not a problem just not so close to the end. Giving injections is kinda akward especially intramuscular, because you usually need to move your hand to aspirate.

So don't get discouraged. :nono:

;) move your hand back....hold it like a dart!
