help getting my first nursing job

Published

I need some advice. I will be graduating in May. I already sent over 10 resumes and only one place actually got back to me. I have a decent resume and cover letter. Thinking about changing tactics a little bit to get noticed. I don't think that applying online will get me anywhere, and this seems to be the preferred method (by hospitals).

Could somebody tell me how to cold-call nursing recruiters, send them resume, follow up after they don't call you, etc? English is not my first language, therefore I would appreciate some opening sentences when calling recruiters.

Thank you,

Ilya

ask "Are you hiring new RN grads?"

If the answer is yes, then ask "if I apply online, when can I expect a response?"

Hi Ilya,

What I have been doing is applying online and then following up a few days laterwith a phone call to the nurse recruiter. You can say, "I just wanted to follow up on my online application and to ask you if you had any questions about my application. I was also wanting to set up an interview with you regarding the position in the Operating Room (? or whatever you applied for) that I applied for."

Good luck and be persistent. If they say, I will have to call you back in a couple of days, then if they don't, call them. Use you calendar to keep track of who and when you talk to the Nurse Recruiter. Also, writed down notes about your conversations with them. It can get kind of confusing when you talk to many Nurse Recruiters.

Its a tough job market out there. Good Luck.

Thank you to both of you, this is exactly the type of advice I am looking for. I was just unsure about business etiquette/customs when cold-calling.
