Help endorsing license/navigating red tape!

This is somewhat of a vent, but if you have any insights/suggestions that would be wonderful, too!

I'm in the process of endorsing my Louisiana RN license to MA. I also have a temporary TX license from when I was furiously applying to jobs and had a pretty good shot at a new grad residency program in Houston (didn't happen, obviously). So here's the situation..

I get an email from the MA BON stating they received my application for licensure by reciprocity and just needed verification of my temp. TX license. TX doesn't use nursys for temp licenses, so, I called directly and was told the only way to verify your temp license is online at the TX BON website. I relayed this info to MA, and was told that they need a hard copy verification from TX or a letter from TX stating 'we do not verify temp licenses.' Well, the latter should be pretty easy for TX, I thought, because all they have to do is print out the email they sent me stating such. Well, not so fast. TX sent me another email telling me they do not send those types of letters out (the we-don't-verify-temp-licenses letter), and what is online will have to suffice for MA. Ok... I proceed to send the MA Reciprocity coordinator my email correspondence with the TX BON which details their inability/unwillingness to send either verification or statement that they do not verify. I haven't heard back from MA yet, and will call them as soon as their office opens, but what the heck?! What am I supposed to do when two BONs refuse to cooperate with each other? They already took my $305, just give me my license! Ugh! :uhoh3:

Any suggestions?!

Is there any way to withdraw your TX temp license? Thats the only thing I can think could help. I hope it all resolves for you soon!

I know nothing about this process, so I'm curious, if you live in LA, why does MA need to have anything to do with the temp TX license at all?

When you apply for a license in a new State many of them want proof that every nursing license you hold is unencumbered.

I see. Thanks!

Then I agree that you should try to pull your temp license in TX, ask for documentation of such FOR YOUR RECORDS. Do not mention MA during this conversation/process at all. Then send this documentaion, if you are able to get it, to LA if necessary.

Yeah, I've tried that. The only official verification you can get for temp TX licenses are online, so I've printed out the page that says "The Texas Board of Nursing certifies that it maintains the information for the license verification function of this website, performs daily updates to the website and considers the website to be a secure, primary source for license verification" and sent it to the MA BON along with a copy of my actual TX temp license, but they tell me this is not an acceptable form of verification..

You may have to go the BORN (Board of Registration in Nursing) in person to get this worked out.

Maybe you understood what I was saying but I'm not sure. So for the sake of clarification, I meant that you should cancel the temporary TX license and ask for proof of cancellation. I don't know if that's possible, but it's worth a shot if you haven't already tried it.

Ooooh! That's an idea.. I have a feeling that you can't ever cancel a license, they just expire.. But it's worth a shot!

I'm envisioning that the temporary license was issued so you could work until a permanent license could be issued, and was thinking that there may be some way to undo, take back, or stop the process from moving forward so that this particular license would no longer be an issue. Does that make sense? I'm just trying to think out of the box here. I don't know if it is even remotely possible, but it's something that I would check into.

BTW...when does it expire?

I see what you're saying here.. my temp TX license expires this coming friday, so I'm not sure what will happen then, if it'll just disappear because I never complete the process of getting my perm TX license or it'll be out there forever in cyberspace as an expired temp license.. ugh..

I just talked to a person at PCS (the third party company that processes all these license apps for the MA bon) and they said to send the whole email correspondence with TX to them and they'll send it along to the MA reciprocity nurse coordinator.. which should take 'a few business days' to sort out. So we'll see how that goes.. I also printed out all the emails and sent it to them via snail mail, just for good measure/so it lands on their desk. I'll just have to keep checking in on them to make sure they're still working on it..

That just might solve your problem then. Check with MA and see if that will satisfy them. I'm thinking they will want proof that it expired but you should be able to provide that, right? Then just let them know that you never completed the process and don't intend to. Hopefully that will take care of your problem.
