Prednisone is activated by the liver into prednisolone. For this reason, and because it is more easily absorbed, prednisolone is the drug of choice when hepatic disease or insufficiency is present.
In essence, they are the same so you would look for similar side effects. The chemical formula is slightly different and dosages are slightly different, so their is an equivalency chart and,of course, what azhiker96 said.
Look up the definition of what a prodrug is. Prednisone is an example of one. Many medications we give are prodrugs and the pharmacokinetics of these medications can be quite interesting.
