Help defining vocab words/studying

yesterday my bf quizzed me, but he got tired of it quick so i don't think he'll do it again. i'll see if my friend will help me next time.

he would say the vocabulary word, and i would have to define it. if i got it right, there was a check, if i got it wrong or couldn't word it quite right i got an x through it to study more. well, yesterday i found out, that i've got a lot more studying to do. even though i know 70% of the words, i just can't define them. i mean if the test is going to be all multilple chose, i know i could pass with flying colors, but if i have to define everything i'm going to have trouble. i haven't even practiced spelling.

there were 70 vocab words, i got 50 wrong.

i've been studying for over a week now. class starts on monday, i'm a little worried it will be too hard for me to learn a section after only one day of studying (which will only be for 2 hours tops a day anyway because i work doubles on the days i don't go to school).

i've been trying to download a few programs to help me study but none really work. this one called 3shoeboxes sounded perfect, but i can't figure out how to put my own vocab in it. *shrug*

i need some advice/studying tips. how do you get through it all?

What are you studying for? And you said the class doesn't start till Monday. Are you just refreshing, getting a head start, or do you already have the syllubus and know what is expected?

i'm in a cna class. we got the book on the 7th and in it was the first assignment. section 1: units 1-4 and then just review section 2: units 5-6. at our orientation she said every class she will give us an asignment to read for homework and the next class there will be a quiz on it.

we have to get an 80% in the class or we do not get to take the state exam and we do not get to work, therefore we'd have to pay back our sponsers $760

i don't know if this is the same in all cna classes---but the one that i took was all multiple choice and i thought that many of the questions were common sense. we were tested out of each unit, and had to get a certain score to take the state test. i didn't read outside of class---just payed attention in class and practiced skills and had no problem at all with tests. good luck.

One thing I learned is that with basic vocabulary and memorization, flash cards always worked for me. I would get index cards, write the word on one side, and definition on the other. I found that by me writing them, I was working through it, learning it~~as opposed to printing them out from the puter where I didint have to actually do the writing. MY writing helped me more. They were small enough, so I could carry them with me, and whenever I had a few moments, out they came. Repetition. When I would get closer to the test/quiz, I would make piles. One pile I know, one pile I kind of knew, and one pile I was out to lunch with. By the time the quiz/test came, my piles would be very different.

My husband helped me with the first week after I started school, after that he just didnt have the interest. (can you blame him, I was the one in school, not him) Perhaps you can find a classmate or two and start a study group and quiz each other?
