Help with decision about leaving my first job!

Published

Hi everyone,

I am a new grad RN graduated in May. I am from NY. Got my license in July. The job search was pretty slow for me and didn’t get so many offers in New York due to Covid and hiring freezes. But then my boyfriend lives around Philly and told me to apply there. I thought why not, I applied and got a DAY shift position on a med surg floor and moved to PA last month. The only thing I like is that it’s a day shift position and my manager is so nice and supportive. I learned a lot in only one month but I really do not like med surg. My patients are all Covid and it’s been super overwhelming for me. The patient to nurse ratio also is too much and I just do not like the patient population and going into work is dreadful. Two days ago I receive an email from a big NYC hospital that wants to hire me in their NICU night shift. This would mean I would have to break my lease here in PA and move back to NY where my parents live and commute or move to NYC to be closer to that job. I would love to work with babies but not sure I can handle night shift and adjust to that. But obviously NYC pays way more than what I get paid here in PA. Please help me make a good decision because now I regret moving here for this job but this was my only offer and I thought a day shift for a new grad was super rare. Thank you so much!
