Help me decide!!!!!

Published

I am a new grad and I have been offered a part time position in a LTC facility but its only every other weekend, at least for now with a chance that I may get more hours at the end of orientation (but its not guaranteed)...my dilemma is.... although it will be great experience, the money is not what I was hoping for and I wonder if it will be too much, I would have about 19-20 residents. Is that too much for a new grad? Also what if something full time comes up in another facility during my training, what should I do? I need to let them know by tomorrow. I forgot to mention that this is a large, reputable company and a place I always wanted to work at. Any advice will be appreciated.

well if you have always wanted to work there then whats there to decide? Pay may not be that great, patient load may be a little high but hteres always cons with the pros. You could always take the position, do the orientation and ask that when a position opens up that you would like to be considered for more hours. But for now, some money is better than no money, some experience is better than no experience. And you could always keep applying to different facilities since you know your days you will be working once off orientation. I am assuming they dont expect you to work just there if they are not gonna give you the hours you want, especially only working two days every other week, which also may be an incentive for them to get you some more hours(so you arent going somewhere else and possibly leaving them for good!)....i just wouldnt mention the fact that you may look for another position until you start. Hope I helped and Good luck!

VM85, thanks for the advice! last night I weighed my pros vs cons and chose to accept the position. I have orientation 12/2..i'm so nervous :crying2: and excited at the same time :yeah:.

good luck! worry about the hours and an additional position or whatever it is that you decide to do, when the time comes. youll be on orientation for a while so keep your mind on learning and getting those hours in! youll do great!:balloons:congrats!!!
