Help me decide my future - Advice from travelers and per diems needed

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So here is the story in a nutshell.

I am an experienced nurse. 1 year on the floor and 1.5 years in the ER.

I acquired a large amount of debt becoming a nurse.

I do not want to be a nurse anymore but I must continue in order to pay my debts.

The ER is wearing me down and I am burnt out. I prefer a more flexible schedule with the ability to take a week or so off at a time without being told I can't.

I am currently researching an alternate career and how I can accomplish that but in the meantime I must continue nursing.

I have the opportunity to take a per diem position at the same hospital I am at or I can choose to stay in the ER until I have 2 years experience so I can become a travel nurse.

Here are my concerns:

Will I enjoy travel nursing or will it be stressful as far as not knowing anyone or what I am doing?

Will the per diem stuff get me enough hours to pay my bills or will I constantly be worried about getting canceled?

Either way I cannot stay staff because I will never get my bills paid. (I work in Florida and make only 24.30 per hour)

Help!!

I am not relying on anyone else's decision but I would like some input as far as per diem veterans and travelers.
