Help with concept maps

Hi,

I am a first semester LVN student. We were given an assignment to complete a concept map based on lab values...I think I know all of the electrolyte embalances, but am having trouble speculating what could be happening and why. I think the patient is in renal failure. Here are the lab values that I was given:

Sodium 124

Potassium 5.0

Chloride 91

co2 23

anion gap 15

glucose 298

bun 35

creatinine 1.0

bun/creat ratio 35

calcium 8.1

phosphorus 1.8

magnesium 2.8

So far I have Hyponatremia, hypermagnesium, hypocalcemia, hypochloremia.

Can someone please help me?:crying2:

Look at the values again. Renal failure is a good first guess; I would have started there myself. Look at the creatinine. Can one be in renal failure with a creatinine of 1.0?

It's like putting together pieces of a puzzle, or being a detective. Keep investigating until you find something that truly fits the patient situation...

What about the BUN/Creatinine ratio? The normal BUN/creatinine ratio is 12:1-20:1. What would a BUN/creatinine ratio of 35:1 signify?

What about the anion gap and glucose levels? Look at website below:

this thread is a couple of years old. webpages get pulled off the internet all the time. have you checked the sticky on this forum:

i know of one college website where you might be able to download a care map template, but it may not be what you need. on the page of the nursing department of cypress college in cypress, california are links for clinical forms that their students use(http://healthscience.cypresscollege.edu/~rn/rnforms.shtml - clinical forms). there are several forms for a care map for nursing 196 in word and pdf formats. here is one of the word links:

it may not be what you need though since this is specific for that school program.

if you do want to use this template i recommend that you download the pdf file and then save the pdf file on your computer. that way, you will always have it saved and can open it up and print it out or do whatever you want with it. i think you can also make edits to it as well. if cypress college decides to make the link unavailable to the public it will be gone. if you save the file, you will have it forever.

I didn't pay attention to how old the postings were that I was just looking at regarding Concept Maps, but thanks to however posted the links!!! I always find what I'm looking for when I come to this site! Awesome! Oh, I'm a 50yr old (or young) ADN 1st semester Nursing student and I love school!!! Love what I'm learning!! Have my first exam tomorrow! Thanks for being here!
