Help, calling all san francisco nurses, or at least one!

Hi-I'm really hoping for a few comments regarding this thread. I posted a question recently and only one person commented, or rather posted a link.

Im planning to return to SF next year after being away for 15 years. I'm an RN with 3 years acute care experience. How much on average can I expect to earn per year with base pay, differentials, some overtime, holiday pay etc? I know this is all relative but if anybody could please give me an idea I would truly appreciate it. I'll be renting initially and I want to make sure I can afford the crazy rents without breaking the bank!

I really appreciate anyone who can give me insight into this as I know we are all super busy!

Thanks again.

I'm not in SF but am there frequently and have been watching the housing market. The cheapest 2 Bd's are running approx $3-3,500 but my SO says I wouldn't feel safe over there (Bayside, industrial area where some big apt buildings have been going to provide more affordable housing), that is subjective of course. Most places I would live in are going around $4,500 and the rest are completely out of reach, his clients for instance pay approx 10K to rent a house during remodeling of their own.

Wages are approx up to $150K, with base pay around $52/hr I believe.

For some context, my SO is in the 150K range and is comfortable with a $1,700 rent (thank heavens for rent control) along with all of the other expenses that go with living in the city.

ETA I'm taking you literally when you say SF, many people say SF when they mean Bay Area.

Hi Libby1987, BSN, RN-

Thanks very much for your feedback. I really appreciate your thoughts and comments. As much as I want to move back to SF, I'm a bit nervous because I dont want to over extend myself and struggle. Im hoping to live in the city but would not be opposed to living in the East Bay, Berkeley would be nice also. Do you think I could make upwards of 150k even with only 3 years under my belt? I do have med-surg, behavioral health/chemical dependency experience. In addition I'm hoping to transfer to the OR shortly as this is where I plan to spend most of my career.

Thanks again for your comments!
