Help! California Nursing Impacted!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I need help I have good grades, but not good enough to get into California Nursing programs because they're so impacted. I need some out of state schools that have similar pre requisites to CSUs.

Please help! I am about to become a junior and am about to complete all my GEs. I am looking to start in the fall.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

Check out UNM (Albuquerque). It's not too far away for you, and I actually saw that they were advertising to recruit nursing students last year so it may not be as competitive as other schools.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Have you considered ADN programs, then bridging to a BSN? Most CA ADN programs run on a lottery system, so as long as you qualify, you're in the pot. Then, if you've already done your prereqs for CSUs, you can bridge right over while working as an RN! Might be a good path to consider without having to move or pay out of state tuition. I would apply to every ADN program you'd consider attending and see what happens.

Also, it may be too late to start in the fall- most programs have already held their fall '14 application cycles.

Good luck!

I understand your position, I too am in California and have similar issues getting into nursing school. Have you looked at College of the Desert? The just switched to a multi-criteria screening and ranking selection process, and they work with CSUSB to bridge to the BSN program there. That's what I'm trying to do now. Oh- have you looked at Cal Baptist University? They aren't very impacted, and have about the same prereqs as a CSU. I looked at their ELM (entry level master's) program for my nursing degree, I can't afford it, but, I have a couple of friends that went that route and they love it. Good luck!
