I am hoping the LPN's here will share from their experience which type of facility might be best for learning as a new LPN.
Also who actually makes the decision to hire (HR, the DON, the Nurse Manager)?
When is the best time? What is the best way? to get to speak with this person?
The job postings that did not state 1 yr. experience required are for:
Prison Health
A Rehab Facility
(sent resume here and recruiter called- she said the docs here can be difficult to work with - and the facility recently raised the bar for their level of expectation of patient satisfaction and that many nurses do not fulfill their criteria and that she does quite a bit of firing of nurses)
Another Rehab facility - LPN Baylor position (every weekend 12 hr both days)
(I would think most people would not want to work every weekend but for me this would be great hours. My kids are grown and my husband's job requires him to work weekends so working weekends is fine with me.)
Assisted living with 8-24hr. part time and PRN shifts.
I have been searching for new grad job since Jan 2010. Applied to all online job posts in my area, gone well dressed to most assisted living facilities. Have only gotten to speak with the front desk or maybe the schedule coordinator to take my application and resume folder and state someone will call me if I match their needs. Now I feel I should focus on a few places and keep following up or hounding them until I get a job there. Most job postings here state they require 1 yr. of nursing experience (I apply anyway). I am so ready just to get a start anywhere so I can begin that 1 yr. of experience.
Any input of which might be a better option to start and learn as a new LPN will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you so much for all the great nurses at allnurses.com who are willing to share with others.
Sincerey,
