Help!!! Am i going to get my license?

Published

Hello everyone. I took my nclex last Month and found out i passed two weeks ago. Along with the letter stating i passed it also said that the board needs to do an evaluation of my prior convictions and then a decision is going to be made. My convictions are only traffic violations. Will i get my license? Will they really not grant me my license?

I had a few classmates in the same position and they were told that it would take longer to get their license for the above reason. I would imagine as long as your traffic convictions are paid you should be fine but they may be going over your background with a fine tooth comb because of it.

Im in california and ive heard so many different storys about what they do..im just a little angry and wish they could see that traffic tickets doesnt mean i wont be a great nurse..thanks again

Minor traffic violations themselves are rarely, if ever, a BON issue, but a failure-to-appear or failure-to-comply charge can elevate a traffic ticket to the level of a misdemeanor. IOW, if you missed a court date or didn't pay a fine on time, you were probably convicted of FTA/FTC, which is now on your criminal record.

DUIs are also not "traffic violations", so if this is what you were charged with/convicted of, you have a misdemeanor on your record.

Even so, all would probably be well with you if you had informed the BON before you sat for the NCLEX. It may still be OK, but to be honest, it is your responsibility to know what's on your "rap sheet" and to inform the BON of anything more serious than a violation (also called an infraction in some states/localities). Good luck to you.
