Hello WCCCD Nursing Students!

Published

Hi everyone. I'm new to allnurses.com but saw that quite a few WCCCD students were on here so I signed up and wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

I began attending WCCCD Western campus in Fall 2007, got all of my pre-reqs and co-reqs for the nursing program finished and went to the May 19, 2008 application meeting. My GPA is pretty high so I should hopefully get in, but until I have my happy letter I'll be on edge! I keep thinking did I have everything they wanted(I double and triple checked, but I guess I'm just a worrier) and then I start wondering if my recommendation letters were okay...lol.. I'm so neurotic!

I've heard we should have our in or out letters by the end of June and I've also heard by the end of July or early August... hopefully it is sooner rather than later!

Anyways, who else here is also sitting on edge waiting to find out if they start the program in Fall of 08 too?

I'm also a nervous wreck about the lottery too!:clown: You know how our school is.. there are so many rumors surrounding the nursing program so I've only heard bits and pieces about how the lottery works and saw a posting on this site about it too. Am I right in my understanding of it, which is that all of the accepted nursing students names are in a bowl and Mrs. N will pull names one by one then pull a campus and clinical location for each name? Do you get what you get or can you trade with someone who is at the meeting before leaving the lottery?

Well thanks everyone..

Hi,

Welcome! This is an awesome site. You will love it!

You are somewhat correct regarding WCCCD's lottery. Mrs. N puts the names in a bucket & as she picks them & calls the names out, we pick the clinical site we prefer. The earlier we're called, the better the chances of getting the clinical site you want. Theory sites are generally WE or NW. The main nursing office is at the NW campus.

As for the rumors... You will hear many. Listen to ALL of them & believe most of none of it. Nursing school is no cakewalk! Stay positive & get yourself a good partner--one who wants this at least as bad as you. She/he will be your greatest asset. Use your classmates for support & support them when you can. We truly are all in this together!!

Good luck on your journey. 2 rotations to go for me! If you need anything pm me.

Thank you so much for lottery clarification AuntNana! I sure I hope I get called quickly..lol- then again I guess we all do. I'm hoping to get the Western campus. It's so much closer to home and easier to get to then NW...

You are right about the rumors..I have heard it all and each time with a new twist. I learned early on that 99.9% either hold no truth or only had a grain of truth that was twisted up and spit back out. I do know that it is going to be rough, but since I expect to work hard and know that I have to get through this to have a "good life" pushes me to succeed.

Congratulations on being nearly finished! That's great! I can't wait to be in your shoes..I know it's difficult, but does it seem like time has flown by? I've been a stay at home mom for so long that I just can't wait to graduate and be employed!

Thank you for your invite to PM you. I just may take you up on that offer sometime. You can also feel free to PM anytime as well. I'm not sure what assistance I could be to you since I'm not even in the program yet and your nearly finished, but I still welcome you to do so anytime.

meme,

I am also waiting to get those letters for Fall 08. I am very nervous. I have a high GPA as well and a great net score, but I cant help but worry about whether I missed something on the application or something. I heard the same thing about the dates too. After talking to a few of my friends who graduated from the program already, they said that their letters were dated for November 14th which is approximately 6 weeks after the last application meeting at the end of September. Based on that, I would GUESS our letters should go out somewhere around July 14th which would be 6 weeks after the last application meeting on May 30th. Personally I think early Aug would be too late because classes start the end of Aug and that wouldn't leave much time to get your CPR certs done. Talk about rushing it. Then you have to add in the Lottery, Orientation and workshops they have you do. Just seems like it would be cutting it close. Of course, this is all speculation and I have no idea really when the letters are going out. Mrs. N said at the information meeting two different times. First she said the end of June, then someone else asked her and she said the beginning of August. I think she was a little confused LOL.

I suppose that one of the existing students that got in for a Fall semester would be able to tell us when their letters were dated. That would be really nice of someone if they could tell us! :D

Hello Serenity,

Well it's nice to meet a possible classmate! I just called the nursing office and asked when we should expect to recieve our happy letters and the woman on the phone said they were still going through the paperwork and that we should know by the end of July!?!?!? Hopefully she overstated the timeline so that I wasn't calling again at the end of this month.. I guess we'll see. Six weeks, as you had mentioned, seems right to me when I look at older posts on this site. And your right, six weeks would put us at July 14th so I guess her answer of "by the end of July" is about right. The waiting game is tough!

When I look at the fall registration on WCCCD's website their doesn't seem to be a ton of classes or class choices available. Early registration starts at the end of June so hopefully with the lottery the early registration won't affect us in any way.

My GPA is really high, so hopefully that will be enough that they don't even need to use my NET scores. I was so sick on the day of the NET. I passed, but didn't do so hot. They only refer to the NET results as a tie breaker, right?

I have called the nursing office too, and I was told the same thing. To me that is just so vague. No one can sign up for nursing classes without a signature from a nursing staff member and that doesnt happen until AFTER lottery. I am still registering for classes toward my BSN this Fall just in case I don't get in. Your right, they only use the NET scores as a tie breaker so you should be fine. I have a horrible feeling like I forgot something or missed something on the application. You know how sometimes when you leave the house and you think, "Did I remember to turn off the stove, or unplug the curling iron?" Well, that is how I am feeling about the application. I just cant shake it. I think it is because they didn't go over the applications to be sure they were complete, like they used too (or at least I was told they did and that is what I was expecting). So maybe that is why I have this unsure feeling...Gosh, I hope that is it.

Anyway, I think you will be fine. Hopefully we both will be fine and will be official nursing students soon! Good luck!

I am having the same panicked worries about my application packet as you are. I'm sure we had everything and it's all fine, but your right...I would have rather stayed longer and had my packet looked over by Mrs. N to alleviate any of these worries and second thoughts. I'm sure it's just our minds playing tricks on us because we have so much hope riding on acceptance into this program.

Hopefully in the next month to month and a half we'll both be on here screaming YEAAAHHH! We got in!! lol

ahhh I can hear it now! YAY!!! That will be the most wonderful sound in the world. I am sure you are right too. Must think and stay positive right? We will get in, we will get in, we will get in......
