Hello and SEC Assessment

This is my first time in this forum. This is really very informative forum. I need to ask if anyone knows about SEC assessment. Please I need some help and also anyone knows about the assessment dates.

Hi there,

I just did my Competentcy test in Nova Scotia, mine was a 3 day test, I just went over on a ten day holiday to do it. You do not need work permits or visas to sit the test. I am now awaiting my results and if I have to do any modules the theory aspect is done online and then I need to go back over to do the clinical aspect which is 7 mentored shifts for each module you are required to pass. Again this can be done on a holiday visa.

Hi kinmont123, thank you for your reply. I just want to ask for any tips when taking SEC assessment. I am scheduled to take it August next year and i need to take the four areas. Hope ypu can email me. Looking forward to it.

Hi Markaina,

Unfortunately they make you sign a form to say that you will not pass on information to others about to do the test ! But what I will say, is invest in the 5th Edition of the CRNE Prep Guide (this is the newest edition that covers the test from 2010-2015) and also Mosby's review of Canadian Nursing, make sure you do every chapter in Mosby's and the questions for each chapter. The PREP guide is invaluable for getting your head around how the questions are formatted. Finally I would say "Think like a Canadian Nurse" ! wherever you did your training, try not to think like that, think Canadian ! and study, study, study !!!! Hope this helps ! (I got the Mosby's book off Amazon and the CRNE Prep Guide direct from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, as the CNA still have the old edition for sale which you do not want !)
