Hello All Nurses, and ? on NLN exam study

Hi, I'm new to this site, and just wanted to introduce myself. I've just enrolled at the College of Lake County in Illinois, and the only thing I have left to do to get into the nursing program is to take the NLN exam. I'm a mom of three who has wanted to become a nurse for 10 years. I hope to learn more about others as I [hopefully] get accepted and progress through the program. It was nice to even find people here who go to the same school as me.

But I couldn't find a topic on the NLN test, so I had to post here. I have a problem because I was told I would be taking the test in mid January, but instead, I found out I only have 5 days to study for the test! Even though I got the study manual, I bombed big time on the 1st trial vocab test so far!

So I'm really nervous about preparing for it the right way! :uhoh21:

If anyone has any advice about the test - general observations, or specific suggestions, would you please respond ASAP?

(I found one person that said there were a lot of percents and decimals, and that if you have the manual, you have all you need.)

I don't understand; for example, do they just test you on the vocabulary in the book, but change the sentences and move the words around? Probably not, so then what can I study to improve this area, medical terms? (I thought it would be more specific to that, and I guess my general vocab isn't as good as I thought). Did anyone notice any similarity between the study guide and the exam here or anywhere specifically? The information meeting person at the college couldn't stay to answer any questions, so I think that's why I feel so in the dark.

Well, I look forward to reading some more intros, but it's back to the book for me. If I can get just get through this, I hope my degree in Biology can maybe help some of you folks with BIO questions.

HAVE A GREAT DAY, "ALL NURSES"

Good luck to you. I'm moving this to the student forums.

Hello,

I also failed the vocab sections in the study book. It is impossible to study for that part in my opinion. There were a few questions on my test that were straight vocab, but most were comprehension questions so you will be fine.

My advice is to skip the vocab study section and study only the math (I only missed 2 questions on the math- I felt it was pretty easy) and the science. I had a lot of physics questions and many of my science questions were the same ones in the study guide, so that helped.

I think you will do fine, just be time conscious during the math section. Most people I know almost or did run out of time and had to guess on the last few math questions.

Good luck!!!
