hearing impaired interested in becoming a nurse

I am mildly impaired, but there are others here with worse impairments that have done very well in nursing. There are amplified stethoscopes out there that you can use if you need to. You can do it!

Here are some links for electronic stethoscopes. They are quite pricey, but I have heard that they can work quite well. Good luck in school :)

tHANK YOU SO MUCH I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND I HAVE COCHLEAR IMPLANT AND IT HAS HELPED ME HEAR A LOT BETTER THAN HEARING AIDS. I AM SO EXCITED AND ALSO NERVOUS!! i AM 28 YRS OLD AND HAVEN'T BEEN TO COLLEGE SINCE I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL 10 YRS AGO! HAD A BABY AND GOT MARRIED SO NEVER GOT A CHANCE AND I FIGURED WHY NOT GET IT DONE WITH NOW HEH

Best of luck to you! I started nursing school at age 43, so to me 28 is still WAY young LOL. I knew I had some hearing loss, but didn't know how bad it was. During school I always sat in the very front row & never had a problem. I would caution you, though, about considering the OR for a career. Not being able to read lips through the masks and the muffled voices is just terrible. I had to get hearing aids. It helps a lot, but sometimes it's still tough to hear.

I'm purdy deef, although I'm fine if people look at me when they speak. I'm getting hearing aids when I come up with the $3k it'll take.

I started nursing school at 51, by the way. 28 is soooo young! You have a lot of time, and I'm sure a lot to give as a nurse.
