This semesters killing me

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Hey guys im in my last semester of nursing school and I am just getting to the end, like im getting worn out to the point were I can like barely function anymore. This semester I have my synthesis (med surg 3) class and leadership class. They aren't to stressful, but clinicals are wearing me down. I have class monday and friday, and clinicals on tuesday. I also took on an extra clinical in the ER. Its been amazing but they didn't tell me until the week before that it was gonna be a night clinical. I also have my externship at the local hospital that I have to do one shift a week for. Ive been doing 2 day clinicals and 2 night clinicals every week. Plus on top of it my dad go diagnosed with cancer in december say for the last two weeks hes been up at a hospital two hours away getting his liver removed. My moms been with them him and Ive had to watch my little brother (12). Ive had to make sure he does his homework and gets to school and baseball practice ect.. and two days ago my grandpa got admitted to the hospital for sepsis and two days later my grandma for a fib with RVR. Im just so ready to quit!! I also found out I was missing a class for minor I have to make up. Anyone have advice for when the stress gets high?? I have no motivation ughh

Specializes in ER.

Wow! (((Hugs)))

It sounds like a lot!. Talk to someone in charge in your program to get a little mercy, and get some help with your brother. Baseball practice is a lower priority than anything else going one, that's for sure!

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I agree with the previous post, let your nursing school know what is going on right away. If the extra shift in the ER was just for experience, maybe you can let that go for now. Worst case scenario, maybe you will have to repeat the semester when things settle down.

I too think that your little brother can be in charge of his homework and may have to miss a practice. You need to make sure that you are a priority too...you are too close to being finished.

God bless you and your family!

Appreciate the replies guys! Unfortunately my dads cancer progressed and they have decided to withdraw treatment. Hes at home on hospice. I graduate in two weeks, so i hope he will make it to that. But shout out to everyone in there last semesters, you can do it!
