Health Science Major to become an RN?

Published

hi everybody. these past few weeks i have been researching about different "back-up" plans in case i get rejected from the RN program which im applying to this year.

so basically, health science major has the same prereqs as Nursing, and was wondering if anyone here know how im going to do that? If i get my degree in Health Sci, what jobs can i get also?

My main goal is to be an RN, but ive heard of people taking different routes to go there. Any info about this?

my sister got major in bio medical sciences, she teaches chemistry and biology at a local high school. I know one of the schools here USF if you have a science major as she does there is an advanced RN program track with completion in a few months. Hope this helps!

good luck!

can you sit for the NCLEX as a health science major? no

can you take an accelerated RN program as a "secondary degree" after you finish a bachelors in health science? yes

If you are looking at alternative routes to nursing you should look at other allied health degrees or certificates available at schools in your area. That way you will be getting clinical and/or patient care experience that will be a good foundation for nursing.

If there are schools in your area that have LPN programs you could also start there and then bridge over to RN.

With a degree in health science you could probably work in a health care environment in a generalized administrative function but you'd need additional training leading to a certificate or license if you want a specialized function.
