Health Insurance

Hello RN's,

I need some suggestion about medical insurance. What is the best and affordable health insurance for Nurses? I have searched lots of insurance company but they are so expensive only me and my husband. I live in Florida. I have a job offer here as RN but the medical insurance is sucks!! I need to find a better health insurance. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I resist being the bearer of bad news if there is the slightest possibility that genuine, authenticated good news can be proffered instead. The truth is that health insurance today falls into two basic terrible categories. #1 Pay lots in premiums for the "Cadillac" brand of insurance or #2 buy a claustrophobic ( pun intended) kind with a very high deductable that really works as catastrophic insurance . Either way you end up paying through the nose. Now I'm sure there are folks out there who can fine-tune this observation but for years now nurses have been saying "I work in health and still my health insurance is terrible and expensive."

Just one more instance where being an insider has just never paid off.

Where in Florida will you be working? I live/work in South FL and most of the hospitals have decent benefits. I happen to be very happy (and grateful) for my insurance/benefits. I suppose that some of the non-acute/smaller facilities may not have the best benefit packages.

If you can't find a commercial insurance that's suitable, I suggest that as soon as you have enough experience under your belt, you try to get a job with a hospital that has better benefits.

Are you eligible to purchase insurance under "Obamacare"? I'm not sure how that works, but I believe that enrollment is once a year. An insurance agent would be able to guide you in the right direction.
