I have been hearing a lot of hype about The Health Care Truth and Transparency Act of 2010. A mass majority of medical associations are in support of this while the ANA is in opposition. Stating that it is a "product of the American Medical Association's ongoing effort to limit the scope of practice of health care providers who are not physicians. This bill would make it illegal for any licensed health care provider who is not a medical doctor (MD) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) to make any statement or engage in any act that would lead patients or the public to believe that they have the same or equivalent education, skills, or training as an MD or DO"

There is a posse over at SDN campaigning for this as a way to halt "nurses from playing doctor at the patients expense".

Just wondering what others think?

Well, a quick Google search (since I had not heard of this, specifically, before) shows that the same legislator (from OK) has been introducing this same bill since at least 2005, and it hasn't passed yet (hasn't even made it out of committee), so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I agree with the ANA's statement that it's unnecessary because state BONs already regulate nurses practicing outside their SOP or claiming to be something they're not.
